Sodium Sulfide

Sodium sulfide is a chemical compound with the formula Na2S. It is a colorless to yellow solid that is highly soluble in water. Sodium sulfide is primarily used in the production of other chemicals, particularly in the manufacturing of paper, textiles, and detergents. It is also employed in the leather industry for the removal of hair from hides and in the production of rubber chemicals. Additionally, sodium sulfide finds applications in wastewater treatment, as it can effectively precipitate heavy metals from industrial effluents. Due to its strong reducing properties, sodium sulfide must be handled with care as it can cause severe skin and eye irritation, and it emits a foul odor of hydrogen sulfide gas.
