Sodium gluconate is the sodium salt of gluconic acid, supplied as a white to tan crystalline powder that is highly soluble in water. It is an excellent chelating agent for calcium, iron and other metal ions, effective even in alkaline conditions.

Its main uses are:

• Set retarder and water reducer in concrete and cement
• Chelant and scale control in cleaning and water treatment
• Sequestrant in metal surface treatment and bottle-washing formulations
